Welcome to Lifebeyondprison, a website dedicated to highlighting positive ways to help reentry individuals returning from incarceration, as well as reducing the rates of recidivism.

When inmates are released from prison, they are given $200 by the state, and nothing else. Whatever rehabilitation they’ve gained while behind prison doors is all that they take with them, as they’re now expected to go back out into society and return to ‘life as normal’.

The problem is, many time these individuals don’t have a strong support system to go back home to, if they even had that to begin with. Many times they are without family, money, job— any sort of guidance that would help them get back on their feet and become productive. No federal help, state help, prison help. Nothing

Thankfully there are people out there who do want to help. There are organizations out there who do care about this marginalized demographic. Preparing the formerly incarcerated to continue on with their lives through educational, vocational, and emotional support. The notion that we cannot forget those who have been forgotten by so many, simply because of a mistake they’ve made in their past. Lifebeyondprison.wordpress.com was created in an attempt to highlight and discover how those who have been incarcerated can rise above the worst moments of their lives, and return to being a productive member of society.
